Then look no further; Art Van Furniture, the Midwest’s largest Furniture and Mattress retailer, is seeking a Data Warehouse ETL Developer in the Finance department.


You may be asking yourself, what competencies would we be looking for in a Data Warehouse ETL Developer?  Well, we are glad you asked!  In this position, directly reporting to the Senior Vice President of Analytics, you will be responsible for acquisition, integration, processing, and migration of data from legacy systems and 3rd party sources, using Microsoft SQL Server Integrations Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services (SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS) into a cloud-based data lake environment. Work closely with internal stakeholders and a collaborate team of engineers, architects, and thought leaders to design, build, and implement next-generation solutions in advanced analytics, big data, BI, and the cloud.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with internal IT partners and third party sources to facilitate the extraction and delivery of data
  • Maintain and update data specifications and extract scripts by client and system
  • ETL Development on SQL Server platform
  • Integration and scheduling of ETL processes
  • Evaluation, validation, correction and enrichment of data for analysis
  • Design source to target mappings and other documentation
  • Function as a technical expert in the design, development, modification and debugging of data models, databases, etc.
  • Work as part of a team to elicit, document, and finalize business requirements (e.g. process modeling, data, business rules, functions, etc.)
  • Communicate with developers and business customers to ensure that customer requirements are correctly translated to appropriate data design specifications
  • Design, build and deploy effective SSIS packages in Azure Data Factory; modification and reuse of SSIS Packages
  • Implement stored procedures and effectively query a SQL Server database
  • Identify and test for bugs and bottlenecks in the ETL solution

Skills / Requirements

The position requires the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience integrating and analyzing data as well as designing, tuning, and developing SQL including T-SQL, Stored Procedures, Views, and Cubes
  • Deep experience in data warehousing concepts and data analysis
  • Experience writing stored procedures and performance tuning
  • Comfortable with the Microsoft SQL BI Stack: SSIS, SSAS, SSRS
  • Experience designing and building complete ETL/SSIS processes moving and transforming data for ODS, Staging, and Data Warehousing
  • Strong data analysis skills (debugging data anomalies)
  • Strive to streamline and improve data processing and reporting
  • Ability to document issues and "lessons learned" to avoid repeating
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving abilities (think out of the box)
  • Strong communicator with ability to change communication style based upon the audience
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to work independently or on a small team
  • Highly organized, and able to run with multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to adopt and implement departmental coding standards
  • Ability to provide high confidence estimate for design change or solution implementation
  • Knowledge of AS400 and Mulesoft a plus
  • Strong understanding of data and analytics solution architecture, including experience with Big Data, Relational databases, streaming and batch data processing, 
  • A solid understanding and experience of the principles and operations of high volume, variety and velocity business intelligence, data warehousing, reporting and analytics platforms with a proven background and record in architecture and implementation of applications, integrating with OLTP and 3rd party systems 
  • Proven ability to prioritize, self-direct and execute at velocity
  • Passion to deliver craftsman-quality work both individually and as part of a team
  • Desire to learn new skills and grow competencies
  • Educational background in a meaningful discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving
